The 2021 State Champions are back, hungry as ever to run through their schedule on their way to another state tournament. Head coach Tanna Smith has raised to level of expectations at Jenks to new heights and is looking forward to another year of great Lady Trojan volleyball.
“Jenks volleyball is a top eight program in the Class 6A. We have continually put together a team that has gone to the state championship and in ten years has been in the final three times, semifinal four times, and lost first round two times. We have won regionals nine years in a row. We have had an All-State athlete or two seven out of nine seasons. We have become a competitive program year after year. This season we return all of the state championship team from last season minus the two seniors who graduated,” said coach Smith.
Outside hitter Maren Johnson (Jr.) returns as one of the offensive threats Jenks will lean on this season. “Maren has been on the varsity squad and has been starting since she was a freshman. She is a six-rotation player and carries us offensively every match. She is an offensive threat front and back row,” said coach Smith. Brynn Roberts (S, Sr.) is one of the leaders on this squad and is the floor General coach Smith relies on during tough matches. “Brynn ran our team to the state finals running a 5-1. As a setter she is often overlooked. As a senior we are stoked to see what she does with the team and excited to see the leadership she brings to the team this season,” said Smith.
Kynli Kirkendoll (MB, RS, Jr,) is a hard worker and someone who is willing to do all the little things to help this team win. Same goes for Caroline Wood (L, DS, Jr.). Both players are important pieces of the puzzle for Jenks. Also look for sophomore Juliana Borchers (MB, RS, OH) to play multiple positions and add depth to the roster. Other players to watch include Ellie Smith (MB, Sr.), Noelle Prideaux (OH, RS, Sr.), Lola Ojo (MB, So.), Alisha Blonsky (OH, RS, Sr.), and Claira Warren (OH, RS, Sr.).
