Brittany Johnson is a mother of three and a Jenks mom who loves to be present for her kid’s activities and serves as a volunteer. We caught up the with Mom of the Month to get her thoughts on what makes being a volunteer special and what activities her and her family are involved in at Jenks.
VYPE: Brittany, tell us about your kids and what they are involved in at school?
Brittany Johnson: I have three kids at Jenks. My oldest, Hunter, is a sophomore and does weightlifting. And my twins, Emma and Riley, are freshmen who play softball for Jenks as well as competitively throughout the year. Emma is also active in FCCLA.
VYPE: What sort of things do you do as a volunteer?
BJ: I volunteer as our “amateur” social media manager creating graphics to share our schedule and game days, pictures, and any upcoming events! Anything and everything to connect with the Jenks community. I try to volunteer wherever there’s a need. I’ve been able to help organize fundraisers and team events. I was able to get our program a sponsorship from Camwood Bats and they donated custom wood training bats for our entire team!
VYPE: What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer?
BJ: I enjoy being able to support the people who are giving so much of their time each and every day to these girls.
VYPE: Do you feel it’s important for parents to be involved in their kids’ activities?
BJ: Booster clubs are 100 percent reliant on parent involvement. Any amount of time that a parent can volunteer for the program during our fastpitch, and slow-pitch seasons means so much to us. It takes a village to keep things running smoothly and the more support you can get from parents makes a huge difference.
VYPE: What made Jenks the right place for you and your family?
BJ: When our family moved back to Oklahoma after being a military family in North Carolina for six years, Jenks immediately felt like the right district for us. Their ability to manage so many kids, so well, was reassuring of our decision! From elementary to intermediate, then middle school to high school, it’s been an amazing experience. We’ve considered moving closer to family in Owasso over the years, but our kids want to finish their high school careers at Jenks!
VYPE: Is Owasso where did you attend high school?
BJ: My husband and I are Owasso graduates.
VYPE: What does the Johnson family enjoy doing with their free time when you have it?
BJ: A lot of our time revolves around softball. Whether that’s me working with my girls one on one, driving them to lessons and practices, or tournaments, I wouldn’t change a thing. And any free time we have, we enjoy spending with our extended family.
