As we transition from one semester to another, student-athletes like Jacob Clink of Jenks High School are working and competing through the break to prepare for the heart of the swim season.
Clink is a senior and a member of the varsity swim team where he competes in the 200 free, 500 free, 200 free relay, and the 400 free relay. Clink said the team is more like a big family.
“The team is really close this year and it feels more like a family than a team. We all continue to get faster and our goal for this season is to win the state championship for both the girls and boys team and win the academic championship for both the boys and girls team,” said Clink.
As a Jenks swimmer, Clink knows the bar is set very high for him and his teammates, but that does not stop them from enjoying their time in and out of the water.
“I really enjoy being able to come to practice and connect with my teammates about our classes while also getting to do the sport I love in an amazing facility. I really love how everyone on the team is always there for one another and there is always someone to lift up a teammate when they are down,” said Clink.
The senior has been involved in competitive swim for 10 years. Out of the water and in the classroom, Clink is a member of National Honor Society and Key Club.
Like many of his peers, Clink has plans for his future, which include college and the opportunity to continue competing in the sport he loves.
“After I graduate, I will be going to Rockhurst to continue swimming and pursue physical therapy,” said Clink.
In his free time, you can usually find Clink training for and competing in triathlons. He also enjoys the opportunities to travel and see the world.
