Jenks Cheer
Ella Smith’s path to becoming a varsity cheerleader was different than many of her peers on the team.
After 11 years of competitive gymnastics, Smith decided to take the opportunity to try cheer in her final year of high school.
“I’ve loved the experience. I’ve loved all of it! Getting to learn new routines and stunts has been challenging yet exciting. I have also loved the opportunity to connect with girls in different grades,” said Smith.
Student-athletes at Jenks are more than just athletes who attend class. The focus us always academics first.
“Jenks High School is a great place to be a student athlete because it is fun to be a role model in the community. I started in the Dual Language Program and loved Spanish all throughout my years of school. I’ve had so many favorite teachers it would be hard to choose just one,” said Smith.
Smith is involved in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Pre-Med Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Drug Free Youth and STUCO. Smith said she plans on attending college next year with an interest in the medical field and hopes to study abroad.
This season, Smith said she has many great memories, but one stands out.
“My favorite memory this year was getting to lead cheers for the littles at Northwest Elementary School which is where my mom is a teacher,” said Smith.
As for the varsity team, Smith said she has loved the experience and is looking forward to the rest of the school year.
“I admire the captains for their leadership, and I have been so impressed by the hard work that the new members contribute. I love the energy and positivity that this team shows, and I love how much our coaches encourage us,” said Smith.
As for the Class of 2024?
“I want us to be remembered for the creativity of the student body,” said Smith.
