Behind every close-knit team are friendships. Jessie Ammann, a junior at Jenks High School says friendships are the best part of her softball team.
“My favorite part is finding lifelong friends and being able to work together by doing something we all find common love for,” said Ammann.
The softball field is where she lets go of daily stress and worry. When things get overwhelming Jessie reminds herself to follow simple yet valuable advice.
“Just breathe,” she says, “ever since I was little, I wanted to pursue softball because it felt like an escape from reality.”
Jessie plays left field and catcher.
“Softball has taught me teamwork and how to keep going, even in hard times. More than that, it teaches many small day-to-day lessons such as determination and problem-solving,” she said.
Travel ball teammate and friend, Hannah Focht from Oktaha left a lasting impression on Jessie.
“She was always ready to give 110 percent, giving all effort with a good attitude. Hannah would do anything for her team,” said Jessie.
A support system of family, teachers, and coaches helps Jessie achieve her goals.
“My mom inspires me because even when things get tough for us, she is always there for me and supports me with whatever I decide to do,” says Jessie.
Jessie is excited about playing another year with coach Williams who has coached her for the past three years. Her favorite teacher is Mr. Beach from third grade.
“He was always making sure everyone else was in a good mood before himself, and he supported me in softball,” she said.
She is especially thankful to Dana and Mike Cundiff.
“When I was younger and not so good, they believed in me and coached me. They have been a big part of my life for more than five years now and there are not enough words to express how thankful I am to them,” says Jessie.
