Q&A with Jenks’ Jack McInelly – Presented by Dathan Medina – Country Financial

VYPE: Jack, what grade did you start playing football and when did you know it was the sport for you?

Jack McInelly: Second grade. You can’t be soft and be successful at football. I just knew that it was the right fit for me.

VYPE: What does it mean to be a Trojan?

JM: To be the hardest worker in the room. Jenks has never had the best athletes, or the best facilities, but we work our tails off and win games.

VYPE: What is the best kept secret about Jenks?

JM: The people. All of our families are bought in. We’re all focused on the end goal… hoisting another gold ball.

VYPE: What game do you have circled on the calendar that you’re excited to play?

JM: Jenks vs. Union. I think their stadium is the most fun to play at. Plus, about half of their team are former Trojans.

VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing, who is the most serious?

JM: DJ Carter, one of our corners. Dude always got me giggling. Most serious – I think it’s a crime if you’re serious 24/7. All of our guys are super fun to be around.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject in school and a favorite teacher?

JM: AP language taught by Mr. Foster. He really pushed me as a student and a writer.

VYPE: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

JM: In the wise words of our defensive coordinator Adam Gaylor, “never flinch.” In football, things aren’t always going to go your way. So, when things don’t go your way, don’t flinch.

VYPE: When you have some down time, how do you enjoy spending it?

JM: Hanging out with my homies. Whether we’re playing pool basketball, going to a rodeo, or hanging out at the lake, we have a good time.

VYPE: What’s the goal for life after high school?

JM: Have a positive influence on the people around me!
