Jenks High School junior Cassidy Williams has built her volleyball journey around competition, connection and the drive to keep improving.
A member of the Lady Trojans varsity volleyball team, Williams began playing the sport in third grade. Since then, volleyball has become more than an individual pursuit. It has given her a competitive outlet and a group of teammates with whom she has shared challenging moments and lasting memories.
“I have been playing volleyball since I was eight in 3rd grade and what I enjoy most about being on a team is competing and going through so much as a team together,” Williams said.
The relationships within the Jenks program stand out most to Williams. A successful team relies on more than talent; it also requires trust, encouragement and the ability to work through adversity together. Williams values the friendships she has formed while representing Jenks.
“The thing I love most about Jenks is the very close friendships I have made,” Williams said.
Williams carries an aggressive approach onto the court, especially on both sides of the net. She sees her powerful arm swing and willingness to play aggressively on defense and offense as key strengths in her game. At the same time, she remains focused on developing the details that can make her more effective.
“My powerful arm swing and using aggression on defense and offense. I am working on fixing my approach,” Williams said.
She also understands the value of confidence in a team setting. The lesson she learned last season remains central as the Lady Trojans compete this year: teammates must believe in one another, but that process starts with trusting themselves.
“Volleyball is a team sport. To trust in your teammates, you have to trust in yourself too,” Williams said.
Williams has learned from people close to her, including her mother and former teammate Izzy Hinds. Her mother’s consistent care provides daily inspiration, while Hinds helped shape Williams’ understanding of how a teammate and friend should support others.
“My mom inspires me the most because she finds every way to show she cares,” Williams said. “Izzy Hinds has left the biggest impression on me because she showed me what a good teammate and friend is,” Williams said.
Looking ahead, Williams hopes to continue her volleyball career at the college level. For now, she remains committed to growing her game and contributing to the Jenks volleyball community.
