Jenks’ Ellie Barnett – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by InkWell

Jenks’ Ellie Barnett

Ellie Barnett understands that playing left defense takes more than hustle. For the Jenks High School junior, the position demands awareness, poise and a steady voice that can organize the team in real time.

Barnett, a varsity player for the Lady Trojans, said one of the biggest challenges of her role is seeing the game develop from a wider perspective and helping teammates respond before a play breaks down. “The most difficult part of my position is being one of the few to see the whole field,” Barnett said. “So, your team depends on your communication.”

That responsibility fits one of the traits Barnett believes defines her game. She said her strength is the energy and communication she brings every time she steps onto the field, though she is still focused on improving her decision-making. “My strength is my communication and energy being poured into the game,” Barnett said. “I’m working on making smart decisions.”

Those qualities also shape the way she connects with her teammates. Barnett said the bond within the program is one of the things she values most about Jenks soccer, especially the support players share with one another through practices and matches. “The camaraderie and fellowship we all have together is something I love about my teammates,” Barnett said.

That sense of connection extends beyond the field. Barnett said she takes pride in wearing the Jenks uniform because it represents more than a team. To her, it reflects a tradition built by former players, coaches and the community around the program. “I love representing Jenks because I’m representing a legacy and the people around me,” Barnett said.

Barnett said her parents have been a constant source of motivation because of the way they encourage her and consistently show their support. “My parents inspire me because they push me to be better and never fail to show up,” she said.

She also credits Trenna Walls with making a lasting impact. “Trenna Walls has left an impression on me because she can turn any hard situation into a positive moment and never fails to push me to my best,” Barnett said.

Looking ahead, Barnett plans to attend a large university and pursue a nursing degree, carrying with her the advice that has helped guide both her game and her goals: “Work hard for others and not just for yourself.”
