Jenks Cheer
Jamie Harrell, a mother of two, is currently serving as the President of the Jenks Cheer Booster Club. Daughter Payton Harrell is a senior at Jenks High School and a captain for the varsity cheer team. Oldest son Jacob Harrell is now a sophomore at Oklahoma State University.
For Harrell, being a volunteer and doing what she can to help the program is something she enjoys doing for the team.
“I enjoy getting to make it special for my daughter and her teammates. I love being involved in something my daughter loves and getting to help them make memories. We fundraise all year to support the cheer program and help keep costs down for parents for competitions. We also organize all of the dinners, banquets, and extra activities for the girls to make it even more special for them,” said Harrell.
Harrell said it’s important for parents to be involved in their kids’ lives, because they’re only in high school for a very short time.
“Because this time in their lives is so short. We blink and then they’re adults. So, it’s important to make the most of being there and doing what you can to be involved with what your kids love. It also leads by example in what it looks like to serve others,” said Harrell.
A Jenks alum, Harrell said there are many reasons why she wanted her kids going to Jenks.
“I love the tradition. There’s such a sense of community and history here and I’m glad to be a part,” said Harrell.
Away from school activities, Harrell said the family loves going to the lake, traveling, going to the movies, and hanging out with friends.
