Jenks cheer coach Kennedy Willis is in her first year leading the Lady Trojans cheer team, but this is her sixth year of coaching. She says along with all practices, games, and competitions, she enjoys the camaraderie of her team.
“We have a team dinner every Thursday night before football games,” she said. “This is a fun time to spend together and get to know each other outside of cheer. We also do team bonding activities.”
Norah Wilson is a senior captain on the squad. She enjoys being a cheerleader for Jenks but says that there is one thing that she really likes the most.
“The thing I enjoy most with Jenks cheer is competitions,” she said. “I love being able to go out onto the mat with my best friends, to show everyone what we have worked hard for.”
The unity on the team is something that senior captain Payton Harrell enjoys about the team.
“I love how our team comes together in the hard times and we are able to really enjoy each other in the fun times,” she said. “We all really love each other and we have good friendships with everyone that it feels like a second family.”
Another senior captain, Presley Cahalen likes to work with her team and watch them improve as a whole unit.
“I love that we can have so much fun together, while still working hard,” Cahalen said. “This team has so many wonderful personalities and it makes the celebrations after the hard work that much better. Everyone has a love for the sport and you can see it in every practice, which makes me want to work harder.”
Reign Bates, a senior captain, says that she enjoys being a part of a group that gets along really well.
“I enjoy how our team is very close , even with the new girls on the team everyone is very encouraging and it makes you want to win, not just for you but for everyone on the team. I also love seeing how hard everyone works, how much fun we have as well.”
I would say our biggest strength is our dedication, discipline & confidence. These girls know how to work hard & aren’t afraid to put in the hard work.
