Jenks’ Lola Ojo – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Inkwell

Playing on a team means you depend on the people around you to contribute to the overall success of a season. Volleyball is a sport that requires trust in the person next to you. Jenks High School’s Lola Ojo is a player her teammates can trust.

Ojo started her volleyball career in middle school, surrounded by players she trusted.

“I started playing volleyball in 7th grade, I truly knew it was the sport for me after junior year of high school. I played with the most amazing people that year and I became a better player,” said Ojo.

This season the Lady Trojans have a young team and Ojo is helping build that trust on and off the floor.
“Having a really young team this year makes it really fun, I think we have great team chemistry and playing with them makes games flow well and overall enjoyable,” said Ojo.

Her work ethic and pride in representing JHS in competition is one reason many of her teammates look up to her.

“All Jenks athletics are very competitive, so I think being surrounded by other great athletes pushes me to be better not only for me but for Jenks as a whole,” Ojo said. “My work ethic comes from not only seeing my parents and how hard they work in their daily lives, but also having played so many games and being in many adverse situations it builds it up as time goes on and it’s my job to fuel it and make use of it when playing volleyball.”

Ojo said her parents have made a big impact in her life.

“Both of my parents have made a big impact in my life, they’re the reason why I was able to play the sport and supported me in every way so I’m truly appreciative of them.”

The bond she shares with her teammates is strong and it shows on the court.

“I love how I can talk to any of them about anything and how they are dedicated to win just as much as me. They all contribute to our team as a whole and I want to cherish the memories I have with them for a long time to come,” said Ojo. Away from the court, you can find Ojo spending time with friends and catching up on her favorite television shows. Once her playing days come to an end at JHS, Ojo plans to attend college, but is undecided on what she would like to study.
