Jenks High School

For nine years Jenks High School’s Carrington Hessen has honed her skills on the tennis court and is ready for a great senior season with her No.1 doubles partner Ava Jacobsen. Representing Jenks HS and playing on the tennis team has been a great experience for Hessen. 

“The thing I like most about being a student-athlete at Jenks is being on a great team of girls who are also my good friends,” said Hessen. “I love that my teammates are very supportive and that they are great practice partners and people.” 

Hessen hopes all of the time in practice and preparation for the season pays off this year. 

“One part of my game that has improved since the last season is my mentality on court. I’m a lot happier to be on court and to get another opportunity to win state again,” said Hessen. “Genesis has helped my tennis game in so many ways. one way is the friendships I’ve made there, always having a partner to practice with anytime. Another way Genesis has helped me is by having a great coaching staff, one of my favorite coaches, Jan Steenekamp, left back in October but there is still an amazing variety of coaches at Genesis.”

Tennis is not the only sport Hessen participates in at Jenks. She is a member of the cross country and track teams as well as National Honor Society, Jenks Pre-Med, and Drug Free Youth. Cross country is what she will likely do in college. 

“After I graduate, I’m looking into a few cross country programs to run at in college,” said Hessen. 

For now, the focus is on tennis and according to Hessen, the team is looking good. 

“Our team is looking very strong this season and we’re looking to win another state title. Our team is strong from Avery Arant at No.1 singles all the way down to our No.2 doubles who just won the Jenks tournament easily,” said Hessen.
