Preparation for the upcoming season is in the books. Now, practice, games, and
competitions have taken over. For Jenks High School’s Norah Wilson, this year marks her
final year of high school after making the varsity squad as a freshman.
“I have tumbled my whole life, but I didn’t start cheer till my freshman year. I tried out to
see how it was and made varsity. It has been a huge blessing to me, and I have enjoyed it
more than any sport I’ve done,” said Wilson. “The thing I love most about cheer is being
able to compete with my teammates. I love competitions, as well as going down to Dallas
for Nationals. We have a very large team this year, as well as a new coach. Everything is
very new, and we have been working really hard. I’m excited to see how our work pays off
and how far our team will grow together.”
Cheer is not the only activity Wilson is involved in at Jenks. She is a member of the Student
Body Leadership, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Drug Free
Youth, and DECA. Wilson said it’s difficult to pick a favorite subject and teacher, but if she
had to narrow it down, she would pick history.
“I never liked history until I was taught by Mr. Hubble. His passion for World History
helped me grow my own passion for the subject. Mr. Hubble is the greatest teacher I’ve
ever had,” said Wilson.
The senior said being a student-athlete at Jenks is special.
“Jenks is a supportive community, especially when it comes to athletics. There are always
friends coming to watch all sports played throughout the entire season. The student
sections create so much energy. Our team is very young, and I have enjoyed helping and
seeing them improve and grow. We are very silly and have fun together but know how to
focus and work hard on the mat,” said Wilson.
Next fall Wilson plans to attend college and study health and exercise or dentistry. Wilson
said she wants the Class of 2024 to be remembered for being helpful, welcoming, and
friendly to all people at Jenks High School.
