The OSSAA has released the 2022 Class 6A-I playoff bracket and the Trojans appear to be on course to clash with Bixby in the semifinals.
The Trojans lead the all-time series against Bixby, 55-20-3, which started in 1917. Bixby is the oldest and longest running rival of the Trojans, but during that time the two teams have only met in the playoffs once, in 2010. In that game the Trojans won, 65-7.
But as of late, the Spartans have won four of the last six meetings. The most significant of those six games was played a short time ago at Bixby, when the Trojans snapped a 58-game winning streak (longest in the nation at that time) the Spartans carried with them into Class 6A-I after dominating Class 6A-II.
Before the Trojans can take on the Spartans again, they must first dispatch an Edmond North team who is looking to play spoiler.
The first and only time the Trojans have faced the Huskies of Edmond North was in 2012 when they defeated the westside team, 34-12 in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Bixby will have the evening off and will likely be in attendance to watch the Trojans and the Huskies battle it out for the opportunity to face Mustang at home in the quarterfinals.
After their first-round bye, the Spartans will take on the winner of Edmond Memorial vs. Enid.
On the other side of the bracket, Union and Norman North will receive byes in the first round, while Owasso will face Westmoore, and Broken Arrow will take on the Tigers of Norman.
If the high school football fans in Oklahoma are lucky enough to see the Trojans and the Spartans meet again this season, it will be on a neutral field and promises to be a great game by two great teams.
