It was senior night at Allan Trimble Stadium on Thursday night and it turned out to be a night that neither the seniors, nor the Jenks football program as a whole, will soon forget. The Trojans (6-2, 4-1) beat the Southmoore Sabercats (1-7, 0-5) 90-9, setting a modern Jenks record for most points scored in a single game according to the voice of the Trojans, Don King. It is the most points Jenks has scored in a game since 1944.
Jenks got started early in the game with the offense scoring three touchdowns in the span of just four plays. At the end of the first quarter, Jenks led 42-6. By halftime, it was 63-9. Jaiden Carroll scored three times, Jalyn Stanford twice, Ayden Christiansen twice, and quarterback Ike Owens threw four TDs and ran in one.
But it wasn’t just the offense that shined. The defense was stout all night long and even scored twice themselves with two pick-sixes from Caleb Suchy and Ty Walls. In all, the Trojans racked up four interceptions and looked every bit the part of the fifth ranked team in the state of Oklahoma.
The Trojans now improve to 4-1 in district play with two massive games coming up the next two weeks against Broken Arrow and Bixby. Head coach Keith Riggs likes the direction his team is heading as they barrel towards matchups with the Tigers and Spartans.
“Really happy with how we played,” Riggs said. “We were really opportunistic tonight. We’ve missed some opportunities at times the last few games, so I’m really happy with our play. We’re trying to gain ground on the injury issue and we’re getting there slowly. We should have a couple guys back next week. We’ll need all these guys playing together as we get into big games the next two weeks.”
Jenks takes the field next on Friday night as they host Broken Arrow (3-5, 3-2) who are coming off a 45-24 win over Enid.
