The Jenks Trojans are looking to defend their baseball state title for the 2021-2022 season. In their first six games, the Trojans outscored their opponents by 44 runs, with 25 runs against Putnam City North. Starting the season with a 6-0 record, the Trojans’ next game against Bishop Kelley got canceled, but that did not hinder their momentum, and Jenks continued to win.
After thirteen straight wins, the Trojans suffered their first loss as they fell to Deer Creek High School at the Broken Arrow/Jenks Festival. Since the defeat against Deer Creek, the Trojans have won eight of the last 11 games, giving up zero runs against Mannford and U.S. Grant, but losing back-to-back games against Sand Springs, and also losing to Owasso in extra innings.
When asked about the season so far, Coach Timmerman says, “we have been consistent, but there is still room to get better in certain areas.”
Coach Timmerman also highlighted standout players- Ty Walls, Logan Tibbett, and Jack James, who have played large roles in the team’s overall success. Twenty-one total wins and only four losses so far in the season puts Jenks in a prime spot to advance to the playoffs. Coach Timmerman emphasizes the importance of momentum entering the playoffs by stating that the “playoffs are the only thing that matters,” so the team must continue to “just keep playing one pitch at a time because every pitch matters.” With 10 games left to play, the Trojans seek to uphold their winning record, looking to end the season with victories against Enid and Collinsville.
